Outdoor Learning

We believe the outdoors is one of the most powerful classrooms. At The Vale School Muthaiga, outdoor learning provides children with opportunities to explore nature, develop resilience and connect with the world around them. Through Forest School and daily outdoor experiences, children grow in confidence, creativity and environmental awareness.

Forest School

Our Forest School programme is a cornerstone of outdoor learning at The Vale School Muthaiga. Taking place in the natural environment of Karura Forest, it gives children the freedom to explore, play and learn in ways that can’t be replicated indoors.

From building dens to studying wildlife, every session sparks curiosity and develops practical problem-solving skills. Children learn resilience, independence and teamwork through real-life challenges in nature. This builds a strong connection to the environment, instilling a lifelong appreciation and care for the outdoors.

Importance of Outdoor Learning

We believe outdoor learning is vital for healthy development. It encourages children to take risks, build confidence and engage their senses in unique ways. Being outside supports physical health, boosts creativity and provides opportunities for unstructured play that develops imagination.

Outdoor learning also enhances social skills, as children collaborate, negotiate and problem-solve together. By integrating it into daily routines, we ensure that every child benefits from fresh air, movement and the joy of discovery in natural spaces.
